One of my proudest moments in my life so far has got to be the moment I got my first job, which I still have until now. It’s to translate books from English to my native language for the biggest publishing company in our country. I’ve always wanted to do translation work, to be honest, but didn’t have any idea how to go about it. After I graduated from high school, I discovered that one of my online friends was working as one in the same company, so I immediately asked her how she did it. She gave me the e-mail of one of their personnel, so I inquired about the job and was told to send in my CV and cover letter. I did that, and a week later, they informed me that I’ve passed the first stage and should now come in to pick up a test material to be translated.
I came to the office with my best friends and picked it up, then when I got home freaked out when I saw that it was a book filled with so many British English slang language. I remembered getting on the internet and asking for my online friends’ help to translate some of the phrases I absolutely had no idea about (and of course they weren’t in the dictionary!) After a group effort, I managed to finish translating the whole thing and sent it in. Later, they gave me the job. It was certainly a wonderful moment, especially when I discovered that for every published translated book I did, I also got five free copies for myself. This means I get to read books for free, have my name written on books which whole content I technically wrote myself, and got five free books on top of everything. Oh, and did I mention I also get paid and could work from home whenever I wanted? I’ve landed the perfect job, and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me!
